Assigning the ownership of a policy may be performed via a deed of assignment. This is a formal legal document usually drafted by a legal adviser. However, Quilter International has draft deeds of assignment to assist in some general situations.
General assignments – For policies under the law of England, Wales and the Isle of Man
This deed allows you to assign a policy in the following scenarios:
- A gift to an individual.
- A gift to an existing trust.
- A transfer to a beneficiary of a trust.
- A transfer to a beneficiary of a Will.
- Where the policy is transferred in exchange for money or money’s worth.
- As part of the settlement of a divorce.
